Investing in a Sustainable Future

At Fanagans Funeral Directors we are committed to operating in a way that is both compassionate and environmentally responsible - helping to preserve the world for generations to come. Below are just a few of the steps we are taking to become a more sustainable funeral provider.

Saving Water, Respectfully

In 2024, we introduced a new method of washing our vehicles that significantly reduces water use while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. Since then, we’ve seen a dramatic drop in water consumption in our garages. We’re proud of our driving team for fully embracing this change and helping us make such a positive impact.

We also sponsored the installation of a water harvester, fitted by Tallaght Community Council to support the watering all the flower and plant boxes throughout Tallaght Village.

Bringing Nature Back: Urban Rewilding

In late 2024, we began a rewilding initiative at several of our funeral homes, including Rathfarnham, Kimmage, Dundrum, Monkstown, and Ballygall. This project is designed to encourage local biodiversity by reintroducing natural elements into our gardens - such as wildflowers, insect hotels, bird feeders, and hedgehog huts.

These small changes help restore local habitats, support native wildlife, and improve air quality. We hope that our green spaces not only benefit the environment but also offer a sense of peace and comfort to the families who visit.

A Greener Way to Travel

We are steadily transitioning our fleet to become more eco-friendly. Our new fully electric ambulance is already on the road, helping to reduce our carbon footprint. Many of our newest hearses and limousines are mild hybrids, and we’re installing electric vehicle charging points at our Fairview and Tallaght branches, with more to follow in the coming years.

Building for the Future

Our new Operations Centre in Rathfarnham has been built to the highest environmental standards. Across all our funeral homes, we are continuing to invest in energy-efficient lighting and heating systems as part of our wider commitment to sustainability.
